I am officially an uncle as of August 10, 2008. My brother and his wife Melanie had a beautiful baby boy and named him Alexander David Medeiros. They say they plan on calling him "Xander" but I think the kid'll have something to say about that.
The crazy thing is I figured it would be me getting married and having kids first, being the older brother. And yet... here I am, struggling to wrench this dream from the tight-fisted city of Los Angeles and her rigor mortis death-grip.
It is 2008 and the Olympics are still going and the world is still turning and we're still at war with Iraq or Afghanistan (or someone we need oil from) and things continue on much as they were before, but I am an uncle now and this kid's going to grow up in the most peculiar era yet. His entire life will most likely be documented and put on the internet in one fashion or another. I'm encouraging my brother to take a picture of him and his wife and his son every single year, once a year, in the exact same location or pose to document the amazing changes that go along with raising a child in this mad, mad, mad world.
