Rover, Red Rover, Send Karl Right Over.

The President's Deputy Chief of Staff and Senior Advisor, Karl Rove gave his two weeks' notice on Monday -- while still under subpoena. This announcement came, not in a press conference or public venue or on CNN, but to a single reporter of the Wall Street Journal, in Rove's own home.

At the center of multiple investigations by both Congress and the CIA, he quits and then claims to be protected by executive privilege "just like a President." Love him or hate him, you can't deny his political accumen. This man was a walking encyclopedia of American politics and knew how to forward his agenda constantly. He somehow managed to come out unscathed from the Scooter Libby trial as if he was wearing Teflon, it remains to be seen if he'll be equally bullet-proof in the U.S. Attorney General firing scandal. Is he quitting now because he feels the crosshairs homing in?

Finally, the brains behind Bush's brawn is gone. Can we please convict this criminal sonofabitch now? It will be interesting to see if Rove's influence can extend beyond his retirement, and to see if his reach will extend through the civilian sector.

Rove's tenacious, no-holds-barred style of politics drew much criticism throughout his tenure in the White House, and his bare-knuckle style certainly lowered the bar as far as what was permissible in a political campaign, but you can't deny his results.

Should he be protected because he's retired? Or should he be held responsible for his actions -- just like every other adult ought to be?
